Macrocappers For the Win

Macrocapper: A meal that consists of proteins, fats, carbs, and calories to maintain weight and make muscle building gains while indulging in healthy and "unhealthy" foods.

As some of you may know I recently started eating macrocappers to make up for the nutrients I need at the end of my day. I'm such a busy bee during my day with school, sports, and career building that I just grab things and go and don't have time to count out macros and calories I may need, I just grab what I'm craving and what's healthy and head out the door. But that leaves me with fats, carbs, proteins, and calories to make up for because I'm so active using my body and my brain all day.

Not only to macrocappers help me maintain my weight, health, and fitness gains/strength, but they help keep me mentally sane.

There was a time during my ED where I would be afraid to eat an apple because of the sugar, or any potato other than a sweet potato because of the starch carbs, which aren't even bad for you. I would not eat bars that were over 190 calories, I wouldn't dare eat bagels or English muffins unless they were the 100 calorie light ones, I only ate 90 to 100 calories yogurt, and restricted myself from the fats, carbs, and calories I needed to be healthy. I was terrified of protein bars, Oreos, ice cream, brownies, froyo, cake, doughnuts, bananas, nuts, oatmeal, nut butters, chocolate, pretty much everything.

For me, macrocappers are so much more than just eating and making gains, they're a form of freedom that my anorexia used to deprive me from. Life is too precious to worry about every single calorie, nutrient, calorie, and macro that goes into your body. Of course, I'm not saying just eat junk food. It's all about balance, cravings, and a healthy mindset.

If you start to believe certain food are "bad" and "unhealthy" you will create unhealthy thoughts around all foods in that arena. Eating too much of one food group isn't good for you just like not eating enough of one food group is bad for you. 90 percent of the time I'm fueling my body on healthy, nutrient-dense foods, and then the other 10 percent I eat whatever my body is craving. That's Why I LOVE flexible dieting because you're allowing yourself to truly enjoy all types of food without missing out on your fitness and health goals.

Of course, I have meals that I don't track. I have times where my macros aren't perfect. But that DOES NOT mean you're unhealthy or that you should feel guilty for eating what you're craving. Nobody is perfect, and fitness and recovery is all about PROGRESS NOT PERFECTION. So eat your kale, veggies, fruit, protein bars, nuts, crackers, Greek yogurt, smoothies, and protein shakes but also don't forget you're beautiful and deserve to eat froyo, candy, cupcakes, ice cream, cookies, brownies, and chocolate.

Please, show me how you celebrate finishing your macros off with #macrocapper on Instagram. I'd love to see all of your creative flavor combos, foods, and ways of eating healthy and thinking healthy :)

Love, The College Fitness Foodie
